The higher the level you attain in your career, the more headhunters and boards see you as a type. But what if you are not exactly what they would think of as a classic CFO or COO – or you are, but you don’t want to continue to be one?
You need the support of someone who understands what and how you can move forward doing what you want to do, not what others think you should be doing.
I have been in the C-Suite, hired for the C-Suite, and been an advisor to all different functions of corporate operations.
I work with individuals seeking to do something different than the same job at a different company when they are seeking a career transition. My work is customized for the needs of every executive, beginning with the need to ensure that the client is moving toward something they want and not just away from something they are burned out on if necessary. From there, we create a unique story of “why” they are changing course and create opportunities for “how.”
“I would highly recommend Amy to anyone who needs help navigating a job search right out of college or an Executive that has not been interviewed in years. She was able to help me translate my experience outside of my title and industry so that I became an attractive candidate for new types of roles. Her tools are extremely useful and she has a process that has proven to be extremely successful. Her book should be a go-to for college graduates and anyone entering today’s workforce.”

I also offer ways to present your skills as transferrable from the role and industry you are into the role and industry you want to get into. If we work together individually, I can help you tailor the specific tools and stories you need.
On a detailed level, we will define your key drivers for looking for something new: lifestyle, health, boredom, reorganization, change of colleagues, or ownership. Then, we will plan a detailed level of how you will take advantage of the opportunity to make a change, be it dramatic or a slight shift, and develop.
Using this information, we’ll develop your “why” statement which will become the central theme of your strategy. From there, I’ll provide detailed support on further developing strategies and tactics on your timeline.
We’ll also work at a detailed level to support your transition out of the company and role-specific language, processes, and habits that may have become ingrained in your work style. This is very common for executives who have risen within the ranks of one company over a long period of time and can become a potential pitfall during job searching and transitions.
Lastly, we’ll create a reasonable timeframe and action plan. What is the best timeframe for your situation? How do you best approach your specific transition?
Becoming a senior executive is an enormous accomplishment and one that should be relished. But sometimes the view from the top isn’t as good as we had hoped. I can help provide everything from ideas to specifics. Call for a free consultation.
Who this is for and not for
These services are for executives, senior executives, and C-Suite professionals who are seeking a change or simply a third-party sounding board. They are not for someone seeking a professional recruiter or general life coach.
My program is based on my experience as a hiring manager at all levels including C-Suite professionals. It incorporates my hiring manager’s understanding of how key decisions are made in framing job descriptions, doing final resume screens, selecting and interviewing candidates, and the final selection process. There is no other program on the market like it outside of the major brand-name recruiters, who
If you are not getting the traction you need in your search for some reason, I will likely know why.
If you’re very successful, do you really need help with changing jobs at a high level?
I’m thrilled for you if you don’t, but sometimes the most successful people have the least experience with job searching because they are pulled from job to job with a boss who loves them or kept a long time at a company who needs to keep them. Job searching at every level, even the highest levels, is a skill set that not everyone has developed through the years.
What do you mean about needing to break habits? I don’t have bad work habits and I’m great at what I do.
I don’t mean that at all. A habit can be using acronyms that will not translate into a new company. EBITDA? Sure. COMS? You could use it to mean commercial paper, and your next company can use it for commercial – as opposed to industrial – distribution channels.
How can you be so sure that you know why my search is not gaining traction?
Even the most sophisticated executive can have trouble telling their own story. A free consultation with me is a diagnostic on a lot of levels. Like any interviewer, I can quickly get a sense of the impression you would make to a hiring manager or recruiter and give you feedback.
I’m not sure I can really afford a change—I make a very good living now even though I’m not particularly happy.
I have a systematic approach to thinking through the question of whether you can afford a change. My framework also considers some reasons why you maybe can’t afford NOT to change.”
Can I really get a different kind of job when I’ve been doing this one for so long?
Probably. I can tell you how to approach it before you make any decisions or take any action.

FAQs
What industries will your methodology apply to? At this level, don’t I need a specialist?
My methodology is very widely applicable. I encourage you to speak to specialists, but you may find they want you to continue to do exactly what you are now doing.
My clients have found jobs in biomedical engineering, financial services, green tech, brand consulting, think tanks, startups, customer success, SaaS, retail management, film production, and the State Department to name a few. My approach is agnostic and works for any role in any industry.
How can you understand what hiring managers and boards want in all those industries?
I have worked in a wide variety of industries myself as a global management consultant. My initial task was always to identify how those industries worked, what roles existed within them at all levels, and how they worked together to make the company successful. My clients s
As a result, I can break down what key skills are needed in a job or industry and what hiring managers look for to fill their jobs. More and more, corporations and managers are realizing that filling a role with someone who has outside experience or comes from a different background can be beneficial to a team or department overall because they bring a fresh mindset and different perspectives. The work of social scientists like Carol Dweck and Adam Grant has helped further the idea that innovation through differing perspectives can add great value.
How long does it take to make a transition with your help?
At the executive level, it can be a long time. However, the search is also a job that requires commitment and time. My approach is to set interim goals and provide accountability if needed to celebrate smaller milestones. I additionally provide support on how to structure a consulting assignment (paid or unpaid) as well as additional tactics for staying productive and engaged in the professional world.
How will economic factors and The Great Resignation impact my transition? Shall I wait?
There are always good jobs for good people. At the executive level, waiting is always a big part of the search. Why wait to start?
Why hire you over other coaches, resume writers, or consultants?
I encourage you to talk to others in the field. Many offer more broadly defined life coaching services and that may be what you want. I am only qualified to talk about careers. Additionally, ask for other professionals’ credentials: have they ever helped anyone with an executive transition? At what point did they start and stop? What industry did the client transition to and from? Did they themselves ever make a career transition?
